From Birthplace to Battlefield:  Carrying Crockett’s Legacy to the Alamo

This March, David Crockett Birthplace State Park staff will begin an 11-day pilgrimage from Tennessee to San Antonio, Texas. The journey will commemorate the 190th anniversary of the Battle of the Alamo.

From March 1–11, the team will travel through places important to David Crockett’s life.  Stops across Tennessee and Alabama will retrace his path before ending at the Dawn of the Alamo ceremony.

Park Historic Interpreter Nolichucky Fred, Interpretive Ranger Thomas Batchelor, Living Historian Issac White, and Friends member Dalton Wade will represent the park in this commemorative Alamo ceremony. During the March 6 ceremony, the group will donate the original stepping stone from the Crockett family cabin to the Alamo museum.

Once in San Antonio, the state park staff will join the March 6, Dawn of the Alamo ceremony. They will donate a piece of the stepping stone from the Crockett family cabin. This meaningful stone will connect Crockett’s birthplace with the place of his death. The ceremony will honor the resilience of the Alamo Defenders before dawn and commemorate the 1836 Battle of the Alamo.

Today, David Crockett Birthplace State Park needs that same spirit of resilience. Hurricane Helene largely destroyed the park in 2024, but the mission continues. On March 6, the park will host a Mobile Homestead Exhibit on the Alamo’s Plaza de Valero. Visitors will learn about Crockett’s life and the park’s recovery efforts throughout the day.

Join Us In Making History

As part of the rebirth of the David Crockett Birthplace State Park, plans are underway for a new visitor center and museum.  Through the Tennessee State Parks Conservancy’s Go Ahead Fund, we are raising support to build a first-class exhibit hall. This exhibit hall will be dedicated to the life of David Crockett and Frontier America.  This immersive space will preserve history, inspire future generations, and deepen visitors’ connection to Tennessee’s heritage.

You can help restore this historic site for future generations by donating to the Go Ahead Fund today.

Frontier History on the Road

On March 6, the park will host a Mobile Homestead Exhibit on the Alamo’s Plaza de Valero.  Visitors can learn more about David Crockett’s life and the park’s recovery efforts following Hurricane Helene in 2024.

The Mobile Homestead is a traveling exhibit that brings the 18th-century American frontier to life. It showcases artifacts and hands-on interpretation while the park remains closed for hurricane repairs.
