David Crockett Birthplace State Park is a unique historical site commemorating the life and legacy of one of America’s most iconic pioneers, David Crockett. However, on September 27, 2024, record-breaking floods from Hurricane Helene swept through this beloved park, damaging its physical structures and natural beauty extensively. As a result, the park is currently closed for public safety. In response, the state of Tennessee has begun a master planning process for rebuilding David Crockett Birthplace State Park – ensuring future generations can continue to explore, learn from, and be inspired by this treasured place.
Go Ahead Fund
We are working with supporters to raise vital funds for various park projects. Picture well-maintained trails inviting exploration, picnic spots that set the stage for cherished memories, and exhibits telling the park’s natural and cultural stories. Additionally, private funds will enhance public funding, ensuring these initiatives are supported, therefore creating immersive, enjoyable, and educational experiences for all visitors.

David Crockett: Lion of the West
David Crockett was born in 1786. While serving in Congress, he fiercely fought for his constituents’ right to keep land they had settled in the new frontier of Tennessee. Guided by a strong moral compass, he openly opposed President Andrew Jackson’s policy of forcibly removing Native American tribes from their ancestral lands. Crockett condemned the policy as both unjust and inhumane. His life came to a heroic end in March 1836 when he died at the Alamo Mission while aiding the Texans in their fight for independence from Mexico.
