What Is Volunteer Week?

Volunteer Week at Tennessee State Parks takes place September 19–28. It leads up to National Public Lands Day (NPLD), the nation’s largest single-day volunteer event. Each year, thousands of people join efforts across the country to restore, improve, and celebrate public lands.

Why Volunteer at Tennessee State Parks?

Whether you’re a first-time volunteer or experienced in outdoor service, you’ll find opportunities to make a difference. Everyone is welcome, regardless of ability or experience. From pulling weeds to building bridges, there’s a role for every skill level. Volunteering is also a fun way to connect with your community, enjoy the outdoors, and give back.

Volunteer Opportunities Across Tennessee

Tennessee State Parks are offering opportunities throughout the week. Projects include shoreline cleanups, garden maintenance, and even trail bridge construction. Some highlights:

  • East Tennessee: Weed pulling at Seven Islands State Birding Park, ADA campsite improvements at Rocky Fork, and trail bridge work at Cumberland Trail State Park.
  • Middle Tennessee: Shoreline cleanup at Long Hunter State Park, events at Old Stone Fort, and projects at Natchez Trace.
  • West Tennessee: Volunteer opportunities include weeding and invasive plant removal at Big Cypress Tree State Park, tree planting at T.O. Fuller, and litter pickup and more at Fort Pillow.
  • Cumberland Plateau: Grundy Lakes cleanup at South Cumberland, activities at Cummins Falls, or join Tennessee’s First Lady, Maria Lee, at Pickett State Park.
