Featuring the Best Friends of Warriors’ Path State Park

Group of volunteers at Friends of Warrior's Path State Park.

In 1993, state legislature authorized private, non-profit groups to organize for maintaining and enhancing the purposes, programs, and functions of the state park system. These groups, known as Friends, are concerned citizens who have banded together to assist in protecting, preserving and promoting the beauty and the splendor of their favorite state park.

A Community Comes Together

Five years later, the Friends of Warriors’ Path State Park was formed by charter on March 24th, 1998, by a group of citizens who wanted to improve the park. Volunteers, who give selflessly of their time, talents, and energy to help the park, run the group.

Rich History Along the Cherokee War Path

Warriors’ Path State Park was named for the Great Cherokee War and Trading Path. Since that time, the park land has known a long history of travelers. It is still a pathway for modern-day outdoor enthusiasts. The 950-acre park is located on the shores of the Patrick Henry Reservoir on the Holston River in Kingsport, TN.

How Your Donations Have Helped

It is important to note that any money you give to Friends goes directly to benefit Warriors’ Path State Park. According to the Friends’ group, park facilities such as the golf course, campsites, and rentals do generate revenue. However, this money goes into the state’s overall budget for all TN State Parks. The Friends raise funds to cover needs that are not in the park’s operating budget.

Darrell’s Dream: A Playground for All

A key feature of the park is the 3-acre Darrell’s Dream Boundless Playground. The playground is a unique space designed to accommodate children and adults of all abilities.

1,100 Acres of Recreation and Natural Beauty

The park encompasses approximately 1,100 acres at an elevation of 1,643 feet above sea level. Visitors come to the park to enjoy the many facilities such as the 18-hole golf course, soccer fields, fishing, over 15.5 miles of hiking trails, over 11.5 miles biking trails, boating, marina with snack bar, disc golf, campsites, picnicking, group shelters, nature programs, annual events and festivals. November 8 will be the group’s Fall Davy of Caring.
