There’s something magical about the great outdoors, and a new program in Chattanooga is helping kids discover it firsthand. The program, spearheaded by the Tennessee State Parks Conservancy, is connecting Chattanooga Youth with nature. As well as fostering a love for the environment and an appreciation for the natural beauty around them.
In this interview below, Alex Wyss, Executive Director of the Tennessee State Parks Conservancy, shares the vision behind this initiative, the positive impacts it’s already having on the community, and how the program is helping kids in Chattanooga develop a lifelong connection with nature.
The Importance of Developing a Lifelong Connection With Nature
As the study in the video explains, spending time in nature is crucial for our youth’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Being outdoors encourages our young people to be active, which promotes better physical health and reduces stress. Nature also stimulates curiosity and creativity, helping them develop problem-solving skills and a sense of wonder. Additionally, time spent in natural environments has been shown to improve focus, reduce anxiety, and enhance overall mood. Beyond the immediate benefits, time in nature fosters a connection to the environment. Therefore, it encourages a lifelong appreciation for and stewardship of the planet.
Ensuring Young People of All Backgrounds Can Explore Tennessee State Parks
Tennessee State Parks Conservancy is dedicated to helping children connect with nature through various impactful programs and initiatives.
