Friends of David Crockett Birthplace State Park

Located in Limestone, Tennessee, David Crockett Birthplace State Park encompasses 105 acres along the scenic Nolichucky River. Established in 1973, the park preserves the birthplace and legacy of one of Tennessee’s most celebrated frontiersmen.
While the Friends of David Crockett Birthplace State Park formally established the organization in 2021, community efforts to honor and protect Crockett’s birthplace date back to the 1880s. According to Friends Group President Will Vogt, generations of local residents have worked to preserve this important piece of Tennessee history for future generations.
Rebuilding After Hurricane Helene
In September 2024, Hurricane Helene caused catastrophic damage to the park. The storm destroyed key facilities and forced the park to close. Despite the setback, the Friends Group and park staff have remained actively engaged in the community through Nolichucky River restoration projects, guided hikes, educational programs, and Heritage Day events.
“Our core mission is to honor and advance the memory of David Crockett,” said Vogt.
One of the group’s signature events is Crockett Days, held each August to celebrate Crockett’s birth and his enduring impact on Tennessee and American history.
Looking Ahead
Vogt noted that the Friends Group has played an active role with the state in planning the park’s rebuilding efforts following Hurricane Helene. The organization has also raised private funds to reconstruct a replica of Crockett’s birthplace cabin. This work will ensure visitors continue to connect with his story for generations to come.
